Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey brings our mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character to 17,000 girls across seven counties in New Jersey. In an effort to engage our most vulnerable girls, we need help launching two new programs: Girl Scouts Beyond Bars and Juliette's House. GSBB addresses the unique needs of girls whose mothers are incarcerated, and Juliette's House addresses those of girls whose families are living in homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities. Both programs function as any traditional Girl Scout troop would—earning badges, performing community service, going camping—with the added element of providing additional specialized support focused on the girls’ sensitive family situations. GSHNJ seeks an outgoing VISTA volunteer to help grow these important programs. You will serve as a vital team member helping to raise awareness in our local communities, forging partnerships with homeless shelters and other service providers, researching funding sources, recruiting adult volunteers and girl members, training adults, and helping girls engage with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. In an effort to provide a place to transition once their families leave the shelter system, you will also help to grow traditional Girl Scout troops in the areas in which Juliette's House troops are forming. Spend your year of service in the field meeting new people, forging new relationships, and building a community that serves and supports all of its members—especially those who are most in need. You’ll spend equal portions of your time in the office and out in the community; you’ll have the chance to interact with both adults and children; you’ll help create an enriching, supportive environment for our girls to grow into G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders (TM)) and make the world a better place.

Member Duties : In an effort to grow two new programs that serve girls whose mothers are incarcerated or girls whose families are experiencing homelessness, we need a volunteer to help us •Locate new agencies to partner with; set meetings with decision makers •Identify and recruit new adult volunteer leaders •Recruit for traditional troops in same areas •Develop leader manuals/materials for incoming volunteer leaders •Develop recruitment marketing materials in general and specifically for Juliette's House & GSBB •Research new funding opportunities •Provide hands-on support to new troop leaders, helping to expose girls to Girl Scout programming as the troops are established and leaders take over. •Administrative work like arranging transportation, exploring new troop activities, collaborating with other support agencies, etc. You'll spend equal portions of your time in the office and out in the community.
