Grace After Fire Development & Outreach OneStar, Houston

Do you have a heart for women Veterans? Know a Veteran? Are a Veteran? Grace After Fire (GAF), located in Houston, Texas, is nonprofit organization who is dedicated to helping women Veterans help themselves by providing the tools to gain knowledge, insight and self-renewal. More than half of the women Veterans we serve are either homeless or living in a transitional housing unit due to unemployment and lack of money therefore living at poverty level. In a recent VA article (Veteran Administration), it is stated that women Veterans are one of the fastest growing homeless populations due to poverty. Additionally, according to the VA, of the 2,051,484 women Veterans in the U.S. today, between 13% and 15% of those living in poverty are homeless. Grace After Fire's unique concept of working exclusively with women Veterans and her family, offers confidential peer-to-peer outreach and direct access to appropriate health and other support services. Table Talk™ Color Me Camo was launched in March of 2012 and covers gender specific topics focused on women Veterans, help themselves through three major pillars: resource community navigation, peer to peer, Veterans social events and retreats. Grace After Fire works to provide tools for women Veterans to overcome challenges and set themselves up for a successful future. That is where our mission statement becomes clear: "helping women Veterans help themselves.”
