NYC VISTA - Career Services VISTA

The New York City Department of Probation advances public safety and improves communities by adopting a Justice Reinvestment framework. The Department of Probation helps build stronger and safer communities by working with and supervising people serving a probation sentence, fostering positive change in their decision making, behavior and assisting with exploring opportunities to move out of the criminal justice system through employment, education, health services and civic participation. Probation clients are often regarded as unemployable and the least engaged in their communities. Our project envisions identifying what are the barriers that prevent Probation Clients access to gainful employment opportunities, research grants and in-kind donations that can assist with dismantling barriers. Along with identifying opportunities that provide justice involved juveniles in preparation for civic and leadership opportunities to develop the skills, necessary to be effective civic leaders; develop career readiness soft skills, and provide supports to move permanently out of the criminal justice system.
