NYC VISTA - Community Engagement and Partnerships VISTA

Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships currently provides oversight to two community-based programs, the Community Partnership Program and the newly establish Family Enrichment Centers. Started in 2007 the Community Partnership Program is ACS’ first funded, community-based initiative committed to partnering with local communities in key aspects of the agency’s work. Currently there are 11 partnerships throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City. Partnerships build a diverse coalition of credible local leaders and providers to support programming in service referral and utilization, community knowledge share (education), support the development of social capital through peer-to-peer programs, and informing City agency policy and programs. The partnerships operate within a two generation framework, providing support to both children and adults to ensure the entire family receives the support and knowledge needed to be successful. In 2017 ACS launched a demonstration pilot for three Family Enrichment Centers. The program model is the result of 18 months of research, design, and iterative development. It is informed by implementation science and a research-backed Protective Factors Framework. Each Family Enrichment Center is a warm, inviting home-like space where neighbors are able to connect, contribute to their community, find resources, and provide one another with support. Each FEC recruits and supports a group of community and parent leaders that co-design and co-facilitate FEC offerings (or programs) that build family protective factors, and creates a Center that is as unique as the community it serves.
