NYC VISTA-Youth and Family Justice VISTA

The Division of Youth Family Justice (DYFJ) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s young people, families, and communities by providing the services, such as overseeing a continuum of services for youth at every stage of the juvenile justice process; supporting and strengthening families and communities; improving outcomes for young people who come into care and through reintegration into the community; and providing services and support for youth through preventive and diversion programs, detention services for juvenile delinquents and juvenile offenders whose court cases are pending, and placement services youth adjudicated juvenile delinquents through the Close to Home program. DYFJ is committed to providing innovative programming throughout its continuum and will need to expand services given the implications of the Raise the Age legislation, which was signed into law on April 10, 2017. Once the law is in effect, beginning October 1, 2018, the vast majority of 16-17 year olds will be processed in Family Court, rather than the adult criminal justice system. In preparation, DYFJ is collaborating with various City agencies to build capacity and expand the use of evidence-based programs and services. You will be instrumental to ensuring DYFJ provides services addressing youth and community needs. The Member will track and analyze critical programmatic-related activities as well as serve as a liaison across internal DYFJ teams to formalize and implement a collaborative strategic plan. In addition, the Member will participate and contribute their expertise to a variety of projects, including operations, quality assurance, program development, and support and services.
