City of Boston- Project Bread

Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger, Inc. is a leading statewide organization committed to ending hunger for Massachusetts residents of all ages. In collaboration with key partners, we deploy a two-pronged approach to achieve this goal: *Provide immediate relief to those who are hungry today *Eradicate the systemic causes of hunger Project Bread is a small non-profit organization located in the heart of East Boston, a vibrant predominantly Latino neighborhood of the City of Boston. We have a nimble and engaged 35-person staff deeply committed to our organizational mission. With our multi-faceted approach to preventing and ending hunger in Massachusetts, all members of our team – including interns and volunteers – are exposed to the breadth of our work: from our decades-long experience answering calls from individuals struggling with hunger and advocating for anti-hunger policy initiatives to our Chefs’ work improving the quality of school meals and our movement-building through the annual Walk for Hunger. To assist us in meeting our mission, Project Bread is seeking a Child Food Security Specialist (VISTA) to join our Child Nutrition Outreach Program team. The VISTA member will serve to reduce food insecurity and hunger among children by building resources in Malden, Medford, and Everett that can be effectively administered and sustained by community partners. The one-year position will begin on June 18th, 2018. This VISTA position is ideal for an engaged, self-starter with a strong interest in promoting social justice through combating childhood hunger. Direct prior experience is not required, though knowledge of food insecurity and federal nutrition programs is a plus. Local knowledge of one or more of the communities served by this project (Malden, Medford, and/or Everett) strongly preferred. For more information about Project Bread’s Child Nutrition Outreach Program, interested applicants should visit www.meals4kids.org.
