Regional Family Resource Network VISTA

The Regional Family Resource Network is a non-profit organization that responds to the needs and opportunities of the community. Partnering with community members and public and private organizations, the RFRN has developed innovative projects and has provided needed resources for our communities. The RFRN has a Family Resource Network (FRN) group in each county covered by the organization (Boone, Kanawha, and Putnam) and they each work collaboratively among many sectors of their communities and focus on factors which negatively impact the these communities. The groups utilize environmental strategies, social marketing, and scientifically-based educational programs to address these issues, primarily targeting special populations such as youth or low-income families. During the next fiscal year, the Boone and Kanawha FRN’s will concentrate on initiatives which target populations made up of youth and low-income families and focus on corresponding problem areas (i.e. underage drinking, poverty, poor health, and addiction). The aforementioned issues impact these communities negatively in a number of ways and each group will strive to improve and/or prevent this negative impact by implementing the following activities: 1. Find the needs of the Economic development of the county 2. Support and create health and wellness initiatives 3. Seek out donations and write grants to help support RFRN events and pantries 4. Access community needs and help RFRN meet the needs of those living in poverty The VISTA will work closely with FRN groups to ensure communication and coordination among community agencies, services, programs, and volunteers in Boone and Kanawha Counties so that the programs and activities are carried out effectively.
