Parent Leadership Initiative Coordinator
 
 
 
Families First is a non-profit parenting education organization serving families in Greater Boston. Our mission is to promote the secure, nurturing parent-child relationships that are the foundation of every child’s well-being and future success. For 30 years, we have been a leader in parenting education. We help parents navigate diverse parenting challenges and build strong parent-child relationships. Parents receive knowledge, skills, and support around parenting, leadership opportunities and other resources. Families First’s office is located just outside of Boston in Watertown. We have free parking and are accessible by public transit. Programs are held at partner sites in Boston. Our location provides a convenient central office to coordinate the work. In this role, the VISTA will leave their mark on the Parent Leadership Initiative. S/he will be a key contributor to our team and leader of this project. As a small nonprofit, we provide a unique learning environment where s/he can experience growth and change. Training/networking opportunities are also available. Tasks include creating/coordinating trainings, developing volunteer program to support parent leaders, identifying resources/creating system for updating, connecting with partners for trainings/resources, evaluating the program and providing recommendations. The VISTA will have strong communication skills, time management, attention to detail, and an ability to work independently and as a team. S/he should be comfortable working with various cultures. Microsoft Office proficiency is required. Salesforce knowledge and bilingual English/Spanish are plusses. Living in Boston is also a unique experience. It is a vibrant, diverse city with interesting neighborhoods and a rich history. It is home to over 100,000 students and offers many cultural activities such as museums, sports and music year-round. Member Duties : The VISTA will lead the Parent Leadership Initiative and move the goals forward. This will build our capacity to enhance the program and better serve parent leaders. S/he will be a key part of our team and help us expand/systematize our parent leader support. Specific tasks include: (1) Enhance parent leader trainings. S/he will update curriculum, identify partners to give trainings, and coordinate and evaluate trainings. This may involve co-facilitating a few trainings. (2) Create a plan for volunteer program. S/he will develop a volunteer manual, recruit/train volunteers, and create tools to track hours. (3) Connect parent leaders to resources. S/he will survey parents to identify needs, connect with partners, and create a system to update resources; staff will be trained on the system. (4) Evaluate the program’s effectiveness. S/he will create and administer tools such as surveys or focus groups. S/he will provide recommendations and create a sustainability plan for Families First.
