NYC VISTA - Vulnerable Populations VISTA

A VISTA member will develop a robust plan to support vulnerable students across 227 Community Schools. Develop and maintain connections to partners who can support homeless students. Reduce chronic absence among students in temporary housing, who identify as LGBTQ, have been affected by trauma, or are in the foster care system. In order to accomplish this goal the VISTA will build the capacity of Community School Directors to support vulnerable students and develop connections with external partners to ensure seamless delivery of services between school and outside resources. Members will conduct site visits to schools with high rates of students in temporary housing, create trainings and resources for Community School Directors, Principals and mentors on how to support vulnerable youth and establish partnerships with shelters, city agencies, and non-profit organizations whose work intersects with the lives of vulnerable students (homeless, LBGTQ, foster care, affected by trauma).
