NYC VISTA-Afterschool Programming VISTA
 
 
 
The Afterschool VISTA will develop strategies and procedures that provide schools that are not Community Schools, but supported through other funding streams that the Office of Community Schools administers, with more frequent and deeper access to social services and supports provided by the Office of Community Schools and its partners. By increasing linkages between the Afterschool Programs team and larger Community Schools partnerships, supports and resources in the areas of hunger, housing/homelessness, healthcare, immigration and safety the VISTA will create stronger support systems. Additionally, this VISTA will Support parents and families in navigating Afterschool programs in DOE schools as a content expert.

Member Duties : 1. Inventory and update existing opportunities and communications materials for school staff to better understand and refer families to free supports. 2. Identify support opportunities available to schools through the DOE and create resource toolkits for Afterschool programs. 3. In collaboration with the DOE Office of Safety and Youth Development (OSYD), plan and organize an Afterschool safety training for Community Based Organizations (CBOs) running DYCD, Empire, ESD/SVP and Community School programs 4. Design tools and communications outlining safety procedures, protocols and best practices 5. Create system to document and respond to parent and family inquiries and complaints. 6. Analyze data regarding family feedback and use it to inform policy.
