18-19 Mid Iowa Community Action: Project Coordinator

Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc.’s (MICA) mission is to provide opportunities to people in vulnerable situations by equipping them to achieve stability, security, and success. In Poweshiek County, families with children under 18 earn less than 18.5% of the poverty level and 52.6% for single mother/guardian households. MICA is part of Iowa Campus Compact's (IACC) VISTA Community Corps program. IACC is a membership organization for colleges and universities committed to the public role of higher education. The IACC VISTA Community Corps builds partnerships between member campuses and community-based organizations, building capacity and alleviating poverty in relation to education and economic opportunity. While IACC VISTA positions are located across the state of Iowa, this position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will support MICA programs by recruiting volunteers and developing sustainable solutions for program implementation, specifically for the food pantries (local & mobile sites) and the LIHEAP energy assistance program. As a result, the VISTA will increase MICA’s capacity to assist individuals living in poverty.
