NYC VISTA - Energy Tech Career Preparation VISTA

We aim to empower students to take charge of their lives and be ready for the world of tomorrow. Through a six-year program that integrates rigorous academics, college coursework, and career exploration, we redefine traditional school experiences and provide a pathway for students to graduate with a high school diploma, an Associate degree, and workplace qualifications. We are dedicated to helping young adults turn their college and career dreams into reality. We believe that all students deserve a high-quality education that adequately prepares them for college-level work. Our schools are open to all students interested in the college and career pathways. We accept students regardless of incoming academic proficiency or disability status. Our schools are designed for students typically underrepresented in higher education and the target career pathways in terms of race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability status, gender, and more. Energy Tech High School, offers students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma, an Associate Degree and important industry training and credentials. We prepare our students for competitive careers in engineering in the fast-growing energy industry. Our students leave ready to go directly into a range of careers or as strong candidates for four-year colleges. This is made possible through the various partnerships we have established. 2018-19 will be a year of significant growth by adding new and deepening existing partnerships. As a VISTA, you will manage several aspects of a mentoring program, including coordinating career exploration events for students, fundraising and grant administration to bring programming to scale, new employer partner recruitment and event planning with employers and trade associations, and improving systems by which students learn about and apply for career activities. This is a great introduction for anyone interested in careers in schools and public education.
