The Helena Family YMCA Summer Academy is a data driven YMCA of the USA summer learning loss prevention program with a strong focus on literacy and enrichment. The goal of the YMCA Summer Literacy Academy is to provide access to academic and enrichment activities for Helena’s literacy challenged and economically disadvantaged youth. The Helena Family YMCA is committed to meeting the needs of our community in the education arena. We currently operate a successful Day Camp program, and have implemented STEM programs, library cards, and creative exercise while advancing the learning of core values. Helena Montana has a 17% poverty rate. 36% of Helena students qualify for free or reduced meals. The Summer Literacy Academy targets students attending three of Helena's Title 1 schools- Schools in which children from low-income families make up at least 40 percent of enrollment. 48 of Helena’s youth who face literacy challenges and poverty will have access to academic and enrichment activities.
