United Way of Central MN - Black Literacy Program (LitMN)
 
 
 
United Way of Central Minnesota - Partner for Student Success works with partners across the community to support students. This project will focus on building a literacy program with and for youth-serving organizations with a specific focus on Black cultural identity development. The Literacy Leader will develop a program that will foster and support cultural identity development of youth while simultaneously developing literacy skills. The position will provide the opportunity to work with community-led organizations, school district staff, and other literacy and cultural organizations across the state as the Literacy Leader researches, designs and supports implementation. The Literacy Leader will gain skills including communication, teamwork, problem solving, implementation and leadership opportunities working with diverse populations. We are a STRIVE organization with a mission to unite Greater St. Cloud in the collective pursuit of student success. Our aim is to increase opportunities so children and youth in our area achieve academically, possess strong social-emotional skills, engage in the community, and are ready for post-secondary/career training and experiences. We work with school districts and 50+ other organizations (businesses, education, community agencies, funders, and government) in the greater St. Cloud Area. The Partnership serves approximately 17,615 students PreK-12 in a tri-county area. Beyond our work in education, United Way also supports health and financial stability.

Member Duties : The Literacy Leader (LL) will identify, develop, design and implement a literacy program that supports Black of Enslaved Descent students’ literacy, cultural, and positive identity development in partnership with community and school district partners. Through their coordination, the LL will support organizations with access to training, materials, continued support and development and program evaluation to ensure the program is implemented with fidelity unique to each organization. The LL will also work to enhance and develop tools forgathering information to determine the impact and effectiveness of the program working with organizations. *Position is part of the Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota(LitMN).
