Literacy Minnesota - Open Door Navigation project (LitMN)

The adults in our programs are aspirational learners with a lot on their plates! Many strive to balance work, family, economic survival and school while also planning their future. To help support adult learners in breaking through multiple barriers to educational success, Literacy Minnesota moves into year three of piloting a new volunteer position called Volunteer Navigator to help students navigate complicated systems in order to achieve their dreams. Volunteer Navigators provide 1-1 support for the self-determined goals of the adult student; together they explore barriers, pathways and resources to the next step in life. The Literacy Leader will continue to expand infrastructure established in Years 1 and 2 to increase effectiveness for the Volunteer Navigators both near and long-term. Additionally, the Literacy Leader will foster deepening ties with existing partner organizations while pursuing new partnerships. Our Literacy Leader will become a welcomed member of our great Open Door Learning Centers community! We are a diverse mix of refugees, immigrants as well as native-born locals supported by staff and volunteers at six learning centers in the Twin Cities. This position will help systematize and improve navigation services at all six learning centers, while based primarily at the Lake Street location in south Minneapolis. This experience offers exposure to learning center management, adult education best practices, and system design. Our ideal candidate is innovative, has empathy for adult learners, and has knowledge of, or experience with, generational or immigrant poverty. *Position is part of the Literacy Leadership VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota. Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. Applications reviewed on rolling basis through July 1.
