RCCCD Communications VISTA (EMERGE)

Ramsey County was established on October 27, 1849, and is one of the original counties of the Minnesota Territory. Located in the center of the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area, it is the second-most populous county in Minnesota, with about 10 percent of the state’s residents. Predominantly urban, Ramsey is the most racially diverse, and the most economically challenged county in Minnesota. It is a relatively small, densely populated county (3,281/sq. mi), with approximately over one-half million residents. Over half of Ramsey County is considered within the highest population density classification of the metro area. In 2014, the percentage of Ramsey County residents living in poverty was 16.9 percent – as compared to 12.8 percent of Hennepin County, and 11.5 percent for the entire State of Minnesota. Ramsey County Community Corrections Department (RCCCD) is comprised of several Divisions including, Administrative Services; Adult Services; Community Relations and External Affairs; Juvenile Services Division (including Boys Totem Town, Juvenile Detention Center, and Juvenile Probation), and the Ramsey County Correctional Facility (also known as RCCF). RCCCD has an exciting opportunity for an individual to help build capacity with underserved, justice-involved youth and families through increased community communications and a transportation initiative. If you are high-energy, with a passion for change, and want to make a real and positive impact in the lives of people who are working hard to improve their lives, than this is a great opportunity for you! Member Duties : As the VISTA with Ramsey County Community Corrections, you will research best practices in governmental communications, evaluate the current communications plan and identify components that need improvement, develop suggested action steps that should be taken to strengthen internal communications, and implement the plan. You will also help us to build an external communications structure that takes into account the needs of community corrections clients through the use of focus groups to learn of the communication needs of RCCC clients. You will also help RCCC to strengthen support of clients of Community Corrections who are seeking employment, by eliminating some of the barriers associated with transportation by implementing a subsidized transportation program.
