MTCC - Bozeman Public Library

According to Montana Office of Public Instruction only 79.6% of low income Montana students graduate from high school compared to an overall graduation rate of 86%. Research shows that outside the classroom learning is just as important as inside the classroom learning to help students succeed. The Bozeman Public Library provides a free and safe space for up to 1800 people each day to pursue opportunities and dreams. Currently, entrepreneurship training and resources on how to start a business are only offered at the corporate and collegiate levels. The VISTA will work with the Bozeman Public Library, the City of Bozeman Department of Economic Development, and the Blackstone LaunchPad at MSU to engage low income students in out of the classroom learning to succeed in school, as well as exposing them to exciting careers and post secondary opportunities. The misson of The Bozeman Public Library is to create opportunities that inspire curiosity, exploration and connection. By offering entrepreneurial classes and workshops, Bozeman Public Library will help provide resources out of poverty through educational entrepreneurship opportunities.

Member Duties : To promote and build a culture of entrepreneurship at the library, the VISTA will kickstart a monthly podcast highlighting entrepreneurial mentors, local small business development, and entrepreneurship programming and services at the library; The VISTA will help build an entrepreneur and business center at the Bozeman Public Library; The VISTA will work with a mentor network to develop a curriculum to teach entrepreneurship to pre-college students as well as others in the community who have an interest. This should include leveraging the full informational and technical resources of the Bozeman Public Library, as well as the content and expertise of the community including the Blackstone LaunchPad; The VISTA will implement a structure that encourages collaboration between underserved community members and mentors.
