MediCorps - Summer - Community Wellness Outreach Coordinator

The Viola Startzman Clinic is a vibrant safety net clinic serving the most vulnerable patients in Wayne and Holmes Counties. Our team of passionate staff and volunteers thinks outside of the box to meet the needs of our neighbors. This program will take us even further outside of our box and into the very neighborhoods, schools, and community events where hurting people are living, learning, and socializing. As a Community Wellness Outreach Coordinator, you will work with community leaders and partners to plan wellness outreach events in the areas of vision, dental, and general health. You will help us take much needed services to people in these areas rather than expecting them to come to us. You will join our team in making a positive impact on our community.

Member Duties : During the course of the summer, the VISTA member will be working with community partners and leaders to assess gaps in healthcare services and ways to fill those gaps. You will meet with schools, churches, health departments, and other social service agencies to plan and carry out vision screening events, dental outreach events, and pop-up mobile health clinics in areas identified as highly concentrated with vulnerable populations. You will work with current clinic volunteers and staff as well as a team of other VISTA members to create dynamic programming that is flexible and meets the needs of the populations it targets. You will spend time in our office/clinic as well as at community meetings and gatherings. You will gain experience in public speaking, planning, teamwork, computer skills, PR/marketing, and working with diverse populations.
