Marion County Public Schools

The Substance Abuse Prevention Campaign will continue to build capacity in the community as it relates to school age children and how it affects families and the community. Marion County has been impacted like most counties of the opioid epidemic. The VISTA volunteers will serve as the liaison between the community campaign and the school district. The Young Parent Program (YPP) has been available for teen moms for 30 years. School districts are required by state law to provide such programs. Simply put, teen moms bring their babies to school at Marion Technical Institute. While mom attends classes, the children are cared for. Helping provide that care are other students who wish to train in early childhood education. Overall this position will be working with the school district to development additional early learning services. As we enter the 2020-2021 school year, the member would work with district administration in the development of policies and procedures for distance learning, 6ft distancing, athletics, school sanitation and student safety.
