Eden Prairie Schools CommunityEd-Family Literacy VISTA (MLC)

We are a group of professionals committed to reducing the opportunity gap that exists in our community, and we invite you to join us! At Eden Prairie Schools, we believe learning is a lifelong journey and that everyone should have access to opportunities to learn and grow, regardless of their life circumstances. That’s why our Community Education Department offers hundreds of opportunities for people of all ages. Our programming ranges from early childhood and preschool classes to after school programs for children to adult enrichment classes and more! Our goal is to connect, empower, and enrich peoples' lives through lifelong learning and service to our diverse and evolving community. Prior to our Literacy Leader coming onboard, there were no family literacy programs in Eden Prairie. The goal of this project is to change that. You will help improve the lives of both parents who want to learn English and their children. This program seeks to eliminate barriers, such as child care and transportation, many of our immigrant families experience to accessing programs. We seek to prepare more children for school and to support students as they learn and grow. You’ll learn about both early childhood and adult programming, experience opportunities for cross cultural exchange, gain valuable skills that are highly transferable (e.g. program planning, collaborative leadership, data analysis and evaluation), and partner with a wide range of nonprofits, school district staff, and community groups. Additional benefits include access to a wide variety of professional development opportunities available to employees of Eden Prairie Schools, as well as free access to adult Community Education classes such as yoga, language classes, cooking classes, and much more!
