MediCorps - Summer - Community Garden Coordinator (2)
 
 
 
The VISTAs will work at the Otterbein Community Garden, serving low income families affiliated with our local pantry, WARM, other local residents, and low income students. The VISTAs will coordinate gardening and educational programs at the garden, develop partnerships and recruit community and student volunteers, and produce food to help eradicate hunger in our community. The AmeriCorps VISTA members will be responsible for working with local summer nutrition and food service programs. In this role, VISTA members will be developing and planning enrichment activities for the youth and their families who receive food through the program. Additionally, VISTA members will set up free farmer’s markets at the food sites to distribute produce from the Otterbein Community Garden. VISTA members will recruit and train new garden volunteers. VISTA members will create a handbook for volunteers that explains best practices for gardening and working with low-income residents. VISTA members will work at the garden to plant, compost, water, weed, and harvest produce. They will be responsible for transporting harvest to local food pantries and meal sites.
