SHH Executive Service Corps Developer – (MAVA)

One in 10 Minnesota residents experiences food insecurity and Second Harvest Heartland serves as the backbone of Minnesota’s emergency food system, assisting 532,000 food insecure individuals every year. While the current demand for emergency food is significant, according to a 2017 study by the Boston Consulting Group, Minnesota’s meal gap will likely grow from 30 to 80 million meals by 2022. To meet the increasing need in our state, Second Harvest Heartland has to double its current output which is why we will need to resourcefully and creatively engage highly skilled volunteers. The vision for this VISTA project is to develop Second Harvest Heartland’s first-ever, pro-bono consulting corps to address our complex and ever-changing business needs. The VISTA project, in particular, is a foundational component of our long-term strategic growth in human capital. This project addresses some intriguing challenges. We know the volunteer management field has struggled with ‘getting it right’ in regard to skills-based volunteering, despite the fact that many of the important pieces to the puzzle already exist. Under the guidance of our Executive Service Corps Developer VISTA, Minnesota will crack the impossible nut of skills-based volunteering in ways that will have lasting statewide implications.
