The Open Door-Volunteer Program Development VISTA (MAVA)

The Open Door is a fairly young nonprofit with a very basic volunteer infrastructure. The organization was created by three local churches after recognizing the lack of resources for residents of Eagan with food insecurity. Our client base has expanded to serve all of Dakota County, providing food to approximately 5,000 people each month through our Eagan Pantry, Mobile Pantry, and Garden to Table program. The Mobile Pantry is our innovative approach to providing food support to those who lack reliable transportation. Our mission is to not only provide food but focus on providing fresh food, which our Garden to Table program accommodates by providing garden plots for families to grow their own fresh food. As the Volunteer Program Development VISTA you will strengthen our volunteer management infrastructure to increase volunteer satisfaction and retention, assess current volunteer program and develop a plan to increase its effectiveness through use of Lead Volunteers, and develop an evaluation tool and process to measure client food security in order to ensure we are meeting our mission to end hunger.
