CEAP – Plentiful Produce Co-operative Coordinator – (MAVA)

Community Emergency Assistance Programs (CEAP) was founded in 1972 in response to growing concerns among neighbors that some people in their community were struggling to meet their basic needs. That value of neighbors helping neighbors remains a core value of our work today. CEAP distributes over 1.2 million pounds of food each year to more than 21,000 people each year. We incorporate many allies into our work, making CEAP a central access point for stabilization, health, and other services. Our hub of community partners that come together in this work, combined with our outreach efforts ensure that we remain accessible to people in all life stages. We also believe in building strong relationships among the people we serve. The VISTA will join this work by creating a robust co-operative volunteer program to encourage community involvement and increase access to fresh produce on a regular basis in addition to normal food shelf appointments. The VISTA will also build capacity by prospecting new partnerships to create a pipeline of volunteer referrals and focus on reaching out to groups that reflect and represent the individuals who utilize CEAP’s food shelf services. The VISTA will build capacity in CEAP’s navigation program by building a database of community resources for food shelf participants looking for additional resources. The goal of the project is to build volunteer capacity around a community based volunteer program to increase access to fresh produce to the community CEAP serves.
