LSI Refugee Economic Development Program VISTA
 
 
 
The Refugee Economic Development VISTA will focus on developing support for economic development activities for refugee families participating in LSI’s urban agricultural, child care business development, matched savings programs and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. Specifically, the VISTA member will work to improve and build business and financial training and resources for farmers, child care providers, matched savings participants and other aspiring business owners. The VISTA member will work to increase the quality and awareness of the Global Greens Farmers’ Market and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program in the community while also developing training and other resources that build capacity for LSI’s Economic Development Program participants. The ideal candidate will have an interest in education, business, economic development, community outreach, and serving the refugee community in Des Moines. In addition, prior experience working with adult English language learners is desirable but not required. The candidate should be proficient in basic Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Member Duties: The VISTA member’s service will focus on the following key objectives: • expand the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site at LSI Refugee Connection Center. • Coordinate with staff to build awareness of the Global Greens Farmers Market and Double Up Food Bucks and other food access programs at the Farmers’ Market. • collaborate with clients to record stories and document successes that can be used to promote refugee economic development programs.

The VISTA member will work to increase the quality and awareness of the Global Greens Farmers’ Market and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program in the community while also developing training and other resources that build capacity for LSI’s Economic Development Program participants.
