Addressing Ohio's Opiate Epidemic - Public Info Liaison

The Mental Health and Recovery Board of Erie and Ottawa Counties is an 18-member board responsible for the oversight and delivery of mental health and recovery services. The board is currently undergoing a strategic planning process that should be completed in June of 2018. In addition, Sequential Intercept Mapping will be completed for Ottawa County by the end of April. Assisted Outpatient Treatment has been introduced to Erie and Ottawa County stakeholders with follow-up meetings for launching AOT to be scheduled in next couple of weeks. The timing is perfect for a VISTA member to join our team as we identify goals and objectives for capacity building. Action items for confronting opioid addiction, establishing goals for treatment and identifying funding opportunities will be part of the plan. Erie and Ottawa Counties are on Lake Erie with many opportunities for one to lead a healthy lifestyle such as boating, fishing, water parks, Cedar Point Amusement Park, etc.

Armed with this data, the PIL will begin public information and education efforts informing the community about the impact. State and national models for addressing the epidemic will be provided. Identification and coordination of relevant training for members of the community will be completed.
