Transfer Student Bridge VISTA

Better Together Central Oregon (bettertogethercentraloregon.org) is regional, cross-sector partnership working collectively to improve child and youth success from before birth to career. VISTA Members will focus their outreach and partnership development efforts in four priorities along the cradle to career continuum: 1) Early Learning and Wellness, 2) Supporting Families, 3) Bridging vulnerable transitions and 4) Aligning education/training with career. The VISTA will serve in critical support of the complex social issue of ensuring long-term student success. VISTA will work to increase the capacity of Oregon State University Cascades (osucascades.edu) to serve rural, at-risk families and develop bridges from Community college to the 4 year university to enhance access for opportunities for disadvantaged students.

Member Duties : Oregon State University-Cascades serves the needs of Central Oregon, a mostly rural region with low rates of college attainment. Our VISTA will launch a student success program for transfer students to increase retention rates and ultimately graduation rates of economically disadvantaged students transferring from COCC to OSU-Cascades beginning with Oregon Promise students transferring fall 2019. The VISTA will improve low-income transfer student academic success via a Transfer Student Bridge program. This program will increase the retention of transfer students at OSU-Cascades to graduation. Bachelor’s degree attainment significantly increases lifetime earning potential helping to alleviate poverty in our community.
