MTCC Billings YMCA-Learning Loss Prevention Summer Associate

The Billings Family YMCA has proudly been serving Yellowstone County families since 1905. We are home to more than 15,000 members and serve thousands of non-members through youth and adult programs. The YMCA is the largest nonprofit organization serving families in Yellowstone County. Although commonly known for our gyms and swimming pools, the Y’s is more than a fitness center, we offer opportunities for individuals and families to grow in spirit, mind and body at every life stage. We make sure that everyone, regardless of age, background or income has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. We provide families the opportunity to have safe, affordable exercise and fitness for their children in an environment that stresses the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility and programs to develop healthy lifestyles.

Member Duties : The Summer Member will serve as a teacher assistant and aid in the implementation of the Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program. This is a 6-week program that offers summer reading and enrichment for children from low income environments entering 1st through 5th grades. This is a free program offered to students who attend our Title 1 schools who are at risk for summer slide. Students chosen to attend this program are handpicked by their teacher based on the students’ test scores. The Summer Member and a certified teacher will teach literacy, based on the 4 Blocks Literacy Model, for 2.5 hours each day and plan and implement enrichment activities which are aligned to literacy for 4.5 hours each day. Enrichment activities include art, music, character development, physical activity, nutrition education, and STEM.
