MTCC - Missoula Food Bank - Summer Associate

This mission of the Missoula Food Bank is to lead the movement to end hunger in our community through activism, volunteerism and healthy food for all. Missoula Food Bank envisions a community that works together in building a hunger-free Missoula where everyone has regular access to nutritious food; every working household is food secure and can afford their basic needs; every child is nourished and has an equal opportunity to learn, grow and succeed; every senior has access to the food they need to age with dignity regardless of mobility, transportation or health barriers; no one feels shame or experiences stigma when asking for help; all those who need social safety net programs have access and participate; no good food goes to waste; and those most impacted are a leading voice in the solutions to poverty and hunger. The Summer Associate will serve to ensure hungry, low-income Missoula youth are provided meals throughout the summer.

Member Duties : Improved nutrition has shown positive impacts in social, behavioral, mental well being and physical wellness in children and adults. Access to nutrition and opportunities during the summer months has also been correlated to degrees of summer learning loss, the experience of children losing some of the knowledge gained in their previous school year throughout the summer. Children living in poverty experience a greater degree of summer learning loss, which can be correlated to the difference in experiences, exposure to activities, and frequency of meals. The Summer Member will assist in neighborhood outreach for the meal sites; engage with kids and families at meal sites, and work to create a stigma-free; fun and educational environment; help facilitate actives with partnering organizations offering services to low income families; and provide kids and families with community resource information.
