8th and College ELL Program
 
 
 
8th & College Connections seeks to expand and improve its program of English language instruction. The ELL program VISTA member will focus on enhancing community awareness of 8CC as a resource, increasing attendance in the ELL program (marketing), initiating grant applications and other fund-raising activities (funding), and exploring the needs of the community for additional ELL-related programing (community engagement). The VISTA member will work to enhance 8CC’s (1) contacts with individuals in the ELL community, (2) outreach to financial resources and (3) awareness of needed services related to the ELL program.

Member Duties : Member Duties: The VISTA member’s service will focus on the following key objectives: • Increasing 8CC’s visibility in the central-Iowa community of English language learners through creation and distribution of targeted print and digital marketing materials for both 8CC, generally, and the ELL program specifically, garnering more awareness, utilization and support for the program. • Assuring the sustainability of 8CC by securing the necessary funding for the ELL program to continue and, as appropriate, expand, while decreasing student fees. Grant research, application preparation, and effective donor relations will be essential to success. • Enabling 8CC to connect with its neighborhood and the ELL community through an understanding of the community’s strengths and needs by actively engaging community members, establishing a presence at local meetings and events, and strengthening relationships with area nonprofits and individuals.
