Fairbanks North Star Borough Soil & Water Conservation

FSWCD works to alleviate poverty through addressing food security issues by promoting local produce, developing new growers, and educating people about the benefits of fresh vegetables. By educating the youth about gardening and providing opportunities for residents to grow their own vegetables, we hope to relieve some of the pressures of living in a food desert. SAs will assist with the continued development of at least two sustainable community gardens and help create a model and example for future community gardens. The SAs will also work to increase community involvement for these gardens. Additionally, each SA will work on one of the following projects: the JP Jones Community Center Summer Food Service Program or the Fairbanks Youth Facility garden project.
