2018-2019 Research and Capacity Building VISTA

The Chicago Rehab Network is a city-wide coalition that consists of community developers and other affordable housing advocates. Through capacity building, research, and advocacy, CRN promotes housing security and development without displacement. In the face of funding cuts to housing and rising displacement and housing insecurity in Chicago, the fight for housing equity is more important than ever. By updating our resources and expanding our capacity building activities, the VISTA will work to ensure that any gaps and needs in the affordable housing field are being addressed so that we can effectively work toward safe, secure, and equitable affordable housing. By creating and strengthening existing partnerships, developing new capacity building activities, and updating and creating informational and educational resources, the VISTA’s work will extend beyond the year and will create a solid capacity and research base. They will implement new programs and grow our existing resource base, making CRN more effective and efficient in years to come. The ideal candidate will have a passion for justice and a willingness to work in a collaborative environment that requires adaptability, self-starting, and critical reasoning abilities in the face of structural inequalities. An ability to be organized and to facilitate relationships with others are very important skills as the VISTA will be working in a project manager capacity. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network. Housing Action Illinois administers 30 one-year VISTA positions located all throughout Illinois. Learn more by checking out our website.

Member Duties : The VISTA’s duties will involve the research and project management necessary to develop new trainings at CRN. In order to do this, the VISTA will work to strengthen existing partnerships and engage in new ones, ensuring that CRN maintains an open dialogue and collaboration with our member organizations and other community partners. They will become familiar with current CRN capacity-building activities and trainings, participate in trainings, and evaluate research and capacity-building activities to determine next steps, possible gaps, and room for growth. They will also research similar training and workshop programs around Chicago and in other cities to better inform development of new programs. In the process of program evaluation and the development, the VISTA will likely help to update existing CRN publications and other resources.
