MTCC - University of Montana TRIO- Upward Bound

TRIO-Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparatory program, designed to provide the requisite academic skills, motivation, and support that first generation, low income students will need for success in post-secondary education. Of the students enrolled in the University of Montana TRIO-Upward Bound program serves, 76% are both low income and first generation. Low-income students are less likely to enroll in post-secondary education than their peers (27% of low income students versus 69.2% of all students). Additionally, students whose parents have not attained a college education are also less likely to enroll themselves. A significant percent of families residing in the two target communities of Missoula and Browning qualify for Upward Bound based on a lack of parental educational attainment - 62.1% in Missoula and 85.7% in Browning. The VISTA will help expand this program's funding and support services to meet the needs of low income and first generation students.
