MTCC - Gallatin College Dual Enrollment Access

According to the U.S. Department of Education, “a growing body of research suggests that participation in dual enrollment can lead to improved academic outcomes, especially for students from low-income backgrounds and first generation college students.” This research indicates that dual credit students are more likely to graduate from high school, enroll in some form of post-secondary college degree or certificate program, and persist in college by accumulating more credits. Gallatin College wants to encourage every low income student into dual enrollment, degree completion and employment placement but does not currently have systems in place to reach these students. The VISTA will help implement a dual enrollment system to remove barriers for low income, 1st generation, and rural students to create pathways into post-secondary, career-focused education and/or training. The mission of Gallatin College, Montana State University is to provide a comprehensive, accessible, responsive, student-centered learning environment that facilitates and supports the achievement of individuals' professional and personal goals, and enhances the development of Montana citizens, communities and economy. Our vision is to transform lives and create opportunities through educating the citizens of Montana. Gallatin College strongly supports open access, affordability, responsiveness to local needs, rigor, and relevance.
