Summer Enrichment Program VISTA - Park Place Outreach

Park Place Outreach is a 12-bed temporary residential shelter for runaway, homeless, and at risk youth ages 11-17. PPO is planning summer programming, which includes a different enrichment program in the morning each week and a fun out-of-the-house activity in the afternoon. Morning activities will include writing workshops, conflict resolution, cooking skills classes, and other important skill-based learning. In the afternoon, we will do some traditional summer activities, like the pool, movies, and bowling, as well as enrichment field trips to local universities and colleges, local employers such as Gulfstream and the Ports, and volunteer opportunities at Second Harvest. In the late afternoon, a Title I-provided tutor will work with the youth to avoid summer learning loss. We would like our VISTA to assist with the summer program, to include coordinating and confirming all of the different activities, accompanying youth on outings, managing the summer calendar, arranging for meals and logistics, promoting our partnerships on social and traditional media, soliciting input from the youth, and supporting fundraising efforts to support these outings and opportunities. By the end of the summer, the VISTA will compile a summary of activities, contacts, comments, and lessons learned to be used for subsequent summer programming. Additional activities could include small fundraising opportunities, blog/social media writing about the summer experiences, and accompanying staff to outreach opportunities. As an outcome, we expect that at least 15 youth will be served through this program and who will be exposed to new opportunities and skills. The VISTA will memorialize the summer in a final report to be used for future summer programming.
