Summer Enrichment Program VISTA- Horizons Savannah
 
 
 
The mission of Horizons is to provide students from low-income families in the Savannah area an academic, cultural, and recreational program designed to help close the achievement gap by preventing summer learning loss and encouraging academic growth. The Summer Enrichment Program VISTA will serve as an assistant to the Horizons Lead teacher. The VISTA will aid in the classroom duties of teaching and caring for approximately 16 students during a six week summer enrichment program. This person will be responsible for helping to plan daily classroom schedule and assisting in instruction. They will work in partnership with approximately 2 volunteers in the classroom each day. Duties will include planning and executing special activities for students including but not limited to story time, art, sports, or other recreational or creative opportunities. The VISTA will be expected to engage in working with students to maintain or improve their reading and math grade level skills as evidenced by pre and post testing. VISTA’s will be supported by the direct supervision of a lead teacher and through supervisor meetings on a weekly basis with the site supervisor. Horizons provides training materials and a combination of in person and online training prior to the summer program.
