18-19 Central College: Youth Programming VISTA

Central College's Center for Community-Based Learning (CBL) supports community-based organizations (community partners) in Pella, Iowa and surrounding communities that address poverty through interventions related to education, food security, housing inadequacies, language instruction, etc. CBL's VISTA project will develop interventions in collaboration with Central College’s community partners that deliver poverty-relief programs. Specifically, the VISTA will implement two types of interventions: 1) organize informational, interactive group visits from youth living in poverty, and 2) coordinate sustained service-learning “mentor matches” that pair college students with students from areas of concentrated poverty. Central College is part of the Iowa Campus Compact (IACC) VISTA Community Corps program. IACC is a membership organization for colleges and universities committed to the public role of higher education. The IACC VISTA Community Corps builds partnerships between member campuses and community-based organizations, building capacity and alleviating poverty in relation to education and economic opportunity. While IACC VISTA positions are located across the state of Iowa, this position is located in Pella, Iowa.
