Forsyth Farmers' Market-Education & Outreach Summer VISTA
 
 
 
The Summer VISTA will be tasked with creating a sustainable summer outreach and education programs to youth at four Farm Truck 912 stops as well as a once a month program to youth at the Saturday market. Farm Truck 912 is a mobile farmer’s market that brings fresh, healthy food to low-income/ low access areas. The purpose of these educational programs will be to educate youth on the importance of eating healthy through fun and thoughtful, hands-on activities. The VISTA will work with the Farm Truck 912 Manager and Executive Director to connect with youth in targeted areas through outreach. The VISTA will address hunger issues by ensuring that children and parents are aware of Farm Truck 912’s Fresh for Less program that doubles SNAP benefits. The primary objective of the assignment is to increase the number of families aware of Farm Truck 912’s “Fresh for Less” Program. Member activities include: research, design and implement education programs geared at healthy eating; conduct outreach to build an audience for educational programs; work to ensure families who are eligible for SNAP redemption are enrolled; promote the Fresh for Less Program to families currently using SNAP benefits.
