Girl Scouts Summer Associate

The Girl Scouts Outreach program aims to empower every girl - regardless of her race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, or geographic location. There are many reasons why girls are unable to participate in Girl Scouts. For Outreach participants, these reasons are often economic – often families don’t have the means to pay for the programs. Girls lack transportation to troop meetings, parents cannot volunteer as leaders because they work odd hours or multiple jobs, have language barriers, or are single parent. Outreach alleviates these barriers by meeting girls where they are under the umbrella of after-school programming. Currently, we serve 145 girls in the Heartland area and are expanding to two new sites this year! Girl Scouts directly impacts a student's ability to succeed in school and graduate with the skills and experiences necessary to succeed in post-secondary endeavors. These key focus areas not only help girls become successful students and more effective citizens and friends, they inspire the next generation of employees who are able to support themselves and their families, break generational cycles of poverty, make healthy choices and take an active interest in the world around them. Outreach enhances both academic performance and life skills by engaging girls in Financial Literacy, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), Leadership Development, Healthy Life Skills, Environmental Stewardship and Community Engagement. Through Outreach, girls develop their skills and confidence among other girls away from school pressures, social cliques, and boys - where they can be themselves and try new things. Girls learn by doing, and the learning is cooperative, not competitive. Outreach helps girls develop a clear vision of who they are and what they want in their future.
