Cornerstone- Social Entrepreneurship - Ft Worth

Cornerstone Assistance Network (Cornerstone) was established in 1992 to address the growing needs of individuals and families struggling under the burden of poverty in Tarrant County, Texas. Cornerstone’s Creation Café culinary internship program is a six- to eight-week, 30-hour/week job training program for Cornerstone program participants, including re-entry clients. The Creation Café manager and a Café supervisor trains participants with little or no relevant experience to work as prep cooks, cashiers, waiters, waitresses, and hospitality coordinators. Employability skills will be taught, including resume writing, interviewing, and job success. Intern goals will include proficiency in the following: working under a supervisor, working with coworkers, maintaining a job, customer service, culinary skills, designing menus and preparing meals. The internship curriculum will include modules from the Alchemy SISTEMs Training Program and the Culinary Institute of America’s ProChef Multimedia Training. Participants’ experience in Creation Café will help to prepare them to enter the food service and hospitality industries workforce with both job training and widely-applicable employability skills. The VISTA Project will enable Cornerstone to develop a similar job training program for the Thrift Store, increase public awareness of its Creation Café and Thrift Store, raise the number of donors and donations received, and meet its goal to provide job training that help 30 Cornerstone clients each year and 50 individuals in the Fort Worth community in need of culinary or retail work experience to secure jobs that enable them to become financially independent and self-sufficient.
