EANDC Summer Associate

The Helping Youth Perform Excellence (HYPE) program is a ten-week, work-based summer youth development program that utilizes life skills workshops, community service projects, and paid-internships to provide East Akron youth with the tools needed to plan for a future that is both fulfilling and financially secure. HYPE helps at-risk youth to fulfill their potential and add value to their community by teaching them invaluable skills such as how to manage their personal finances, apply for admission to college, secure and maintain employment, and become civically minded residents. Previously, the HYPE program was separated into three distinct phases—Community Service Project, Career/College Readiness, and On-Site Internship. However, this year the HYPE program will add value to the experience of participants by introducing HYPE participants to civic and neighborhood-based organizations active in Akron, in an effort to inspire the participants to be involved in their own neighborhoods. The participants will have the opportunity to participate in service projects that will promote a better understanding of their neighborhoods and opportunity to improve where they live. The Summer Associate will be involved in the organizing, maintain and implementation of the HYPE program to its current structure by assisting the Social Service Coordinator in updating program materials and tools to ensure a smooth implementation for upcoming years. The Summer Associate will also coordinate various aspects of the day-to-day logistics of the HYPE Program.
