Spirit Lake Behavioral Health Aide

The mission of the Spirit Lake Tribe is to promote justice, insure tranquility, encourage the general welfare, safeguard our interests and secure the blessings of freedom and liberty for ourselves and for our posterity. The VISTA project will seek to improve capacity of the Tribe's departments and programs, and improve life and healthy outcomes by reducing meth use and suicide. VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as education and outreach, data management, system development and policy development over the course of the first year. The Spirit Lake Nation is located in rural Benson County, North Dakota with a population of 5,002. Over 45% of the population lives at or below poverty. Currently community needs are not being met because of how high the level of need is. There is a lack of qualified workers in the community to provide services and strengthen the capacity of existing programs. New departments and programs have been established to meet community need, including the Meth and Suicide prevention program, but these programs are new, and need more capable workers to function effectively. The project will strengthen the community and help lift individuals out of poverty in a number of ways. Strengthening Tribal department programs and increasing their capacity to use a collaborative and strategic approach will allow them to better serve community members.
