Carbon Valley Dreamer Class Summer Associate

Founded in 1990, the “I Have A Dream” Foundation of Boulder County provides dropout prevention and college-preparation programs. “I Have A Dream” is dedicated to motivating and empowering low-income youth (affectionately called Dreamer Scholars) to achieve their educational and career goals through a unique, long-term achievement program. The organization has proven that a long-term commitment to each student can close the achievement gap by supporting them to and through high school graduation. The Summer Associate will support “I Have A Dream’s” summer programming. The summer program is an important part of the “I Have A Dream” model. During six to eight weeks of summer programming, the Dreamer Scholars attend summer school, and literacy and STEM skill-building workshops; complete volunteer service learning projects; and experience extracurricular activities that help boost social, mental, and physical development. They visit college campuses, museums, and the zoo. For many of these students, “I Have A Dream’s” trips are their only opportunity to participate in these character- and life skill-building activities, which their more affluent peers may take for granted. The summer program is one part of “I Have A Dream’s” larger program, but it plays an active role in reaching the organization’s overall outcomes, which include: Dreamer Scholars will achieve academic success and be prepared for high school graduation.
