Environmental Summer Steward Position

Our mission is empowering Iowa's communities and school districts to make more environmental, energy-efficient decisions and improvements through direct service work, environmental education, professional development opportunities, and volunteer engagement. Members will spend the summer assisting with environmental steward projects on campus, in the community, and throughout the state. Members will be engaged in support of the Green Iowa AmeriCorps mission of residential energy efficiency, environmental education and community outreach support. Daily activities will vary from one site to the next, engaging members related specifically to their community and host location. Our program hopes to engage the next generation of ‘green-collar’ workers through a combination of field trips, presentations, and hands-on learning. Members have access to free trainings, education on a variety of environmental topics and practices, and engage in extensive community service. Service with Green Iowa AmeriCorps will provide you an opportunity to make a difference in peoples’ lives on a daily basis all while gaining valuable experiences alongside other passionate and service oriented individuals. We intend to hire socially-minded individuals who want to make a difference in the community. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to work as a team or individually on projects that require learning/teaching new skills or participating in physical labor. Applicants should be self-starters, capable of working with minimal supervision and sensitivity to working with diverse sectors of the population.
