*Goodwill VISTA* FAME Financial Capacity Coord.- Augusta

As Maine’s higher education authority, the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) administers a variety of scholarship, grant, and loan programs designed to reduce financial barriers that prevent Maine citizens from pursuing higher education. In Maine, only 29.3% of adults hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and 19.5% of children under the age of five are living in poverty. In order to improve Maine’s educational attainment rates, and to break the cycle of poverty, FAME administers extensive outreach and counseling programs designed to help Maine citizens pursue education and training. To help reduce the costs of higher education, FAME also administers Maine’s 529 college savings program. FAME’s vision is to lead the creation of good paying jobs for Maine residents by working at the nexus between economic and workforce development. Today, 59% of Maine children are living in low-income households where housing costs exceed 30% of income. 23.3% of Maine children ages 0-17 are living in food insecurity. The VISTA will focus on increasing financial capability by supporting the training and outreach efforts of our College Access and Financial Education team. As a founding supporter of the Maine Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, the VISTA will support the Coalition in its efforts to increase financial education in Maine schools, through statewide training and support, awareness building, and collaboration. https://www.famemaine.com/, http://mejumpstart.org/
