Empowering Huntington County

Empowering Huntington County is comprised of three organizations: Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington County, Purdue Extension Huntington County and Parkview YMCA. These groups have united to increase access to healthy foods, educate residents about the importance of physical activity and improve safety plans in youth serving organizations. The Parkview Boys & Girls Club has increased the number of youth served over the last three years, serving more than 330 kids each day. Providing a safe place for kids and teens is a priority for the Club. The Purdue Extension is an organization that focuses on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Health and Human Sciences, Economic and Community Development and 4-H Youth Development. One of its newest endeavors is the Community Garden, which offers fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need. The Parkview YMCA includes a diverse group of men, women and children who share a commitment to healthy living. The YMCA provides a variety of programs, classes and individual activities for youth to engage in an active and healthy lifestyle. Working in collaboration among the three agencies, VISTAs will endeavor to create a safe, healthy environment for underprivileged youth in Huntington County, Indiana.
