The Thea Bowman Center was established as a 501©3 in 2001. The Center has a 16 year history in the Mt Pleasant Community, providing services to over 7800 adults, families and children in FY 2016-2017. The primary programs and services offered by the Center are: Health and Wellness: Food Support Program to help the community in dealing with hunger and provide food support (including a weekly hot meal) to people in need due to circumstantial hardships.Ohio Benefits Bank is a community resource located at the Thea Bowman Center. Intergenerational Garden is available to seniors, children, and families interested in participating in planting, managing and harvesting their own fresh vegetables. Adult Literacy/GED program: This program begin in 2009 to assist people with completing their educational goals. The 2014 online test change requirement has significantly impacted the Mt. Pleasant community. Children Program: Children after- school and summer program to provide a safe environment for working parents and children to learn social and academic development.

Member Duties : Facilitate and promote ongoing youth engagement activities. Work with youth leaders for input in implementing a project plan including implementing a resource guide created by the previous VISTA to the community with the intention of providing youth and families with resource information to support daily living. Recruit and coordinate volunteers to put on youth programming either as workshop leaders or chaperones to community events and field trips. Connect and foster partnerships with community providers to build on and ensure implementation of the existing youth and family engagement plan. Main focus: Help youth become leaders in their community. Must be computer savvy, be organized, have an interest and skill set to work with 12-18 year old youth, and be an effective communicator to foster community engagement.
