The Kent State University Pre-College/TRIO Upward Bound Programs, housed within the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, is committed to providing equality, preparation and access for populations seeking entrance to post-secondary education. The program is intentionally designed to prepare low-income and first-generation college students to develop their potential to excel in mathematics and the sciences, entrepreneurship, and ultimately pursue and obtain post- secondary degrees, Our curriculum and activities are holistically designed to ensure our students are academically, socially, and culturally prepared as productive citizens in a global society. Upward Bound plans to engage VISTA members in fundraising activities, volunteer management/recruitment, community outreach/education, expansion of program services and other exciting projects that may occur throughout the year.

Member Duties : Upward Bound is seeking a self starting VISTA member to assist our Upward Bound team. The VISTA member will go into the communities we serve to build sustainable partnerships and sponsorships with organizations and businesses as well as be responsible for writing up donation letters, contacting community businesses and organizations to obtain commitment and participation in the after-school program and Saturday Academies as it pertains to the developed curriculum. VISTA members will assist with the structuring, programming, and fundraising components of our Community Advisory Council. The VISTA member would participate in the creation of a mental health and self care component for our students and their families. This position would allow the VISTA member to work on multiple aspects of the Upward Bound Program and get diverse professional experience.
