MediCorps - Development Coordinator

New Life Community Outreach (NLCO) a United Methodist affiliated organization that strengthens the fabric of the Columbus, OH community and enhances the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors by providing material resources, healthcare, spiritual nourishment and referrals to needed services in the community, in an environment and manner that not only sustains life, but also provides hope and opportunity for growth and “new life.” NLCO is a nearly all volunteer run organization. Our goals are to improve the holistic nature of our services, expand hours of operations, and to do so in a sustainable manner. The breakfast ministry contributes to this goal by providing substantial meals (nourishment) and fellowship for persons who otherwise would have none. The clothing room ministry provides clothing, shoes, linens, basic hygiene and personal items so that our neighbors can meet their basic living needs (regardless if they are housed or living on the streets). These material goods are also basic necessities for getting and staying healthy, gaining and maintaining employment, visiting family, attending church and other community events, and being treated with dignity and respect by the larger community. Our free clinic enhances quality of life via the primary care and podiatry services offered and because our non-traditional hours allow access for persons who cannot afford to take time off work to see a doctor. We are in the process of developing a network of dentists to meet our goal of providing access to free and reduced cost dental services. NLCO plans to develop a case management program to link clients to resources and services, and to provide extra support needed to identify, establish and achieve next steps to moving out of poverty. NLCO plans to engage a VISTA member in fundraising activities, volunteer management/recruitment, community outreach/education, program development, and other special projects that may occur throughout the year.
