Somali Community Association of Ohio
 
 
 
The Somali Community Association of Ohio is the leading voice of Somali immigrants in Central Ohio. It was founded in 1996 and it caters to the needs of the Somali immigrant community. Our project helps shed some light on a variety of issues facing members of our community. It is usually the case in poverty assistance programs that there is a focus only on making income without teaching its participants the key tools of financial literacy. We are hoping to educate our residents about savings, building credit and applying for loans. Creating a partnership between community leaders and local business owners; addressing issues of unemployment and connecting our members directly with possible employers; raising concerns about the lack of access of healthy food sources in our neighborhood and the need for more affordable housing in the city of Columbus.

Member Duties : • Recruit individuals for workshops about financial literacy, affordable housing, the need for healthy food sources and ways to increase employment opportunities. • Work to foster relationships with local business owners throughout the city of Columbus, promote partnerships. • Develop material to teach residents about financial literacy tools. • Join weekly staff meetings and participate in management development.
